This month Fabricate features the opening reception for Soft on Saturday, June 11th from 7–11 p.m.

About the artist:

Arynn Blazer was born in Maryland and raised in Cincinnati. She likes to think that the moon has everything to do with her birth.

“It was the moon that led my father to Houston where he met my mother, interning for NASA during the Apollo 11 moon landing,” says Blazer.

“As far back as I have memory, there have been rabbits surrounding me. My father, who always was looking up, showed me the rabbit in the moon. As a child, I remember lying on my back in a Doctor’s office, diagnosed with a rare blood disease and surrounded by curious professionals. I was comforted by the silhouette of a rabbit I found in the wood grain in the office door.”

Later in college, while studying Art History and Art Education at DAAP, bunnies began to emerge in her artwork. Surrounded by serious art students, she drew inspiration from the two bunnies she had at the time, Puka Bun-Bun and Ilee Hip-Hop. In 2003, she did her first bunny cluster drawing.

“In my mind, bunnies were somehow a glimpse of Heaven. They were soft, gentle and grateful for the care and love they received.”

Fast forward to adulthood and motherhood: She had a beautiful Angora rabbit named Buffy. They both had knotted, wild hair. She drew bunnies on her pregnant belly and they became a way to express feelings of the significance of reproducing life. Sadly, that sweet bunny died the day she gave birth to her beautiful daughter Ester.

Rabbits continue to occur in her work, as she tries to cultivate joy, happiness, gentleness, kindness, honesty, purity and love in her life.

Please join us for Arynn’s newest collection, potable beverages and soft, soft summer nights!

Able Projects is going to have a special, limited edition “Arynn Blazer” art shirt that will be available for purchase at the show. We are super excited!

Afterward, follow everyone down to Mayday for the Fabricate after-party and Boozing My Religion!!! Feel free to get super raucous on the dance floor.
